$60.00 until September 6; $70.00 afterwards.

This is a two-session class: a Saturday indoors and a weekend outdoors. Participants will learn the skills and get the information needed to conduct a successful wilderness canoe trip with youth.

Course topics include:

  • canoe handling
  • packing to stay dry
  • wet weather fies
  • trip planning
  • group organiation
  • gear planning

If you are planning to visitng Northern Iter canoe Base or doa "50 Miler" via canoe this is a must course for you adult leaders.

Basic Backpacking Awareness Requalification

For experienced, certified backpacking trip leaders.

If you completed Basic Backpacking Awareness five or more years ago, its time to requalify. Get the latest information, updated forms and requirements, in a condensed course tailored especially for seasoned backpacking leaders.

Cost: $25.00 until November 1; $35.00 afterwards.


Leave No Trace

Climbing/Rappelling Instructor Program

Course Information

National BSA Standards for individuals supervising climbing/rappelling activities have stringent requirements. This program is structured to provided the highest quality training in not only climbing, but in risk/site management, rappel protocol, Leave No Trace and practical, safe anchoring techniques.

Two courses are offered:

  • The first is to train instructors for indoor climbing / rappelling, specifically the Youth Leadership Training Center climbing wall.
  • The second is to prepare instructors to become a SFBAC BSA climbing/rappel instructor. On completion of this last course, a candidate may apply for a certification exam.
